last night I was playing with feedbacks…4 send channels with different fx strips assigned to some knobs and feeding eachother….I ended up with this stuff, recorded live directly into audio…I might use it for a more evolved tune at one point.

he is one of the minds behind Ableton…and he does many workshops around the planet sharing his knowledge….and many other good things can be said about him…he is humble !

I met him at the Sonica festival 3 years ago where I had the honor to share the same stage (Deadbeat, Rhythm and Sound and Greg Hunter were there too)..that time he played in front of 30 ppl (maybe less)…while thousands where lobotomized on the main stage by some rubbish trance…but he delivered an amazing set…and he didn’t behave like a rockstar…even if many of the bloated rockstars (who were playing on the lobotomy (trance) stage) were actually using a software that he created…period again.

he just released Silence, a new album…(dunno where he finds the time to do music)…

I haven’t got it yet…and I am very curious.
I am very pleased to read that he also joined the movement to stop the Loudness War…and he didn’t use any compressors for this album…and no limiters during the mastering.

Cloudcycle is a bizarre experiment conceived by Greg Hunter (Dubsahara, Subsurfing, Alien Soap Opera, who also worked on some seminal albums of electronic music, amongst others with Orb, Killing Joke, Steve Levine, Matrix movie soundtrack) and mauxuam (unpredictable manouvrer who last year released his album Viceversa and has been turning knobs and tweaking sounds for over twenty years on many diverse and obscure projects).
two experienced space navigators who lost their way home, met eachother along the digital pipeline and forgot where they were heading to…and why. Master Margherita met them along the way and while trying to help them find a direction, got himself lost too…

Cloudcycle started one mad night 3 years ago and it is still morphing into new shapes…greg and maux have been shifting and drifting…working online at huge distance of time and space (greg in uk and egypt, maux in oz)…connected by the magic of wand skype….with no timeline, no deadline and no end.
Without knowing what to do and simply bored with the old music biz paradigma, they started to release this music as an audioblog on the net uploading the tracks as soon they finished them….including alternative mixes and demos and the samples to do your own remix.

Deep and heavy beats and out of nowhere melodies, slow techno and endless ambient drones….familiar with every genre without belonging to any trend, cloudcycle is a bunch of trip-a-delic dub-minimal-glitch-world-oddness, a spicy and scented delight for the senses…disappearing before you get hold of it…dissolving without trace…fractalized in micromacro syncronicities.
Richness to resonance, truth to tonality, esoteric emotions and subtle harmonies… a spontaneous outpouring from our side to the world, a musical invitation to experience and join for the pure reason of sharing.

Cloudcycle doesn’t sound loud as fuck…it’s not in your face…we praise the dynamic range…music is the silence between the sounds….pleasure relished in the unsquashed transients…we don’t fight in the loudness war.

in the moment we become so involved in the experience, we lose track of ourself, lose track of time, lose track of our identity…we become clouds.

Mauxuam, Maurizio or Mau, whatever you call him will not change the effect his music has on you. His granular modulated music is dipped in wild apple juice and left to oscillate in the wind. Each time you look at these vibrating soundscapes they become more involved and the textures transform continually. Mauxuam’s album is an ever evolving teapot, refilling itself with fresh herbs on every track whilst still retaining the tangy flavours of the previous ones. Kick back, enjoy and be curious.

Does your name mean anything ?

mauxuam is a palindrome – a word from the language spoken on the planet Ummo where I lived for a few years.
Everybody is telepathic so they speak using words very difficult to pronounce and without meaning to make jokes and laugh at the sound of it.

tell us about your musical history.

I started to do music a long time ago. In 1989 I founded the Lost Legion Alien Collective which had many different releases throughout the 90s in europe and america. One of our creatures was Ohmega Tribe, an ambient trance project that released an album in 1995 for Silent records – a seminal ambient label from SF – as well as many tracks on compilations. Our live band was Technogod, kind of a industrial hiphop crossover. We did 3 albums and a few european tours as the supporting act for Meat Beat Manifesto, Young Gods and Consolidated. We split in 1997 and I continued for a few years as a producer in the italian music industry doing remixes, productions and soundtracks for adverts. I got so disgusted by that commercial filth that I dropped out, sold all my equipment and I went traveling without a fixed base for many years. I only started to write some music again 4 years ago as an hobby – this time as a professional amateur.

Your music has a really spacey and psychedelic flavour to it, what’s influenced its creation ?

do you think so ? I guess that my experiences with psychoactive substances has something to do with it…but also the reality show, the apocalypse approaching, the human ordeals, the weather, nature, the universal spirit, my demons, my lovers.
Music is out there, I grab it, channel it, mix it…usually at late night.
Very often the tunes are taking control and they start to evolve by themselves, they have their own life.

When it came to writing an entire album, how did you decide to approach it ?

I decided to re open, remix and deconstrukt my tunes with the intention to output a sound, fresh and coherent in time – in the now. My goal was to break through the parameters of the psychilldub scene, to explore new territories, take some risks, to surprise myself and to be curious again. I locked myself in somewhere desolate, most of the time without even internet and did a disciplined baba life for a few months. I let myself go mad with it.

Please tell us about a couple of your favourite tracks and why they are your favourite

my favourite tracks ever ?
Future days by Can (1972) – a seminal tune that has elements of much of the music nowadays.
Can’s music was truly psychedelic and experimental, endless tunes that you can drift away on.

Shakara by Fela Kuti – trances me out everytime, I can’t stay still, fu#*ing hell, I HAVE TO DANCE.

You also are a visual artist, do you work as a painter or only with moving electronic visuals, how long have you been doing this and what do your images try and convey ?

I am honestly very bad at painting and drawing.
I only play with software and I don’t really see myself as an artist but more as a navigator. I started to play with visuals during my 7 year break from music, it was refreshing to work on animations and graphics. my images are not trying to convey anything really, they are mainly abstract canvas where you can actually see and project many things.
